So. There. 불합격.
But who cares? ^_^
Of course I wanted to do well, but I know right from the start 중급 is still beyond my level (especially after the exam! OTL). I’m actually surprised (and happy!) with my score, especially on the 어휘및문법 part (I passed Level 3 and maybe if I got 2 or 3 more correct answers my 어휘및문법 would be at Level 4! 신기하다!). And at least now I know how weak I still am on 읽기, 듣기 and 쓰기. I’m actually proud of my 쓰기 score even if it’s a failing score (I was expecting it to be lower). And my 읽기 score is exactly how I expected it to be. OTL.
It’s so obvious that I only reviewed 어휘및문법 and didn’t practice the rest. ㅋㅋㅋ
At first I wanted to try again for April. Aim for a Level 3 perhaps, then a Level 4 on October. But I don’t want to push it. Got loads of stuff on my hand for the next 3 months and I don’t want to lose focus. It doesn’t mean I’ll stop reviewing/preparing for it for the meantime. I just don’t want to add more pressure on myself when I’m already this stressed. So I will take the October one instead and aim for a level 4!

I guess you mean that your thesis is going to be the first priority for the upcoming months? How is it coming along? Did you settle on a topic yet? 🙂
It’s okay. I know I didn’t prepare well yet I’ve learned a lot. And yes, thesis SHOULD be the first priority. And no! No topic yet! /wrist
So, did you pass Level 3? Is that the Intermediate Level? I was surprised to read that, given your experience and advanced knowledge of Korean (compared to most of us), you still found the test quite hard. Now I really need to push back my plan to take the exam from this year to next. >,<

And yes, this is the Intermediate level (중급 means intermediate).
And I don’t have advanced knowledge of Korean. I am a struggling lower intermediate.
Experience? Hmmm if what you mean by experience is exposure, I can say I have a lot. Hahaha. But studying? Not really.
One needs to have an average of 50% (with no sections less than 40%) to pass level 3. (An average of 70% with no sections lower than 50% for a level 4).
Don’t be discouraged by my scores! Why don’t you try it this year and find out for yourself. You might even earn a certificate for all we know. And if not, then there will be more TOPIKs next year and the next and the next. You’ll never run out of TOPIK exams. 🙂

Good try alodia!!! I’m sitting here on New Year’s Day thinking about taking Topik this year. I think I’m in the same boat as struggling to break from lower intermediate to intermediate in Korean.
I think that’s the most difficult “boat” to ride in. Good luck! We have another new year to study more Korean! 🙂
you’ll do better next time! 😀 Maybe for now, don’t think so much about preparing for it. Instead, try reading more widely in your spare time and listening to more radio shows etc. ^^
Thanks for the advice! I guess that would do! I would love to read more, especially with my new android! I now can get some free 소설 that I can’t download on my pc before! Now it makes me want to give the 30th exam a shot – for fun. Won’t prepare hardcore (since I can’t anyway), but will just read and listen a lot (and chat/kakao a a lot with Korean friends) and see how my scores will improve (if they ever will). Will do some hardcore studying for October’s exam instead (that is, if I really will get to finish my non-existent thesis by March OTL). 🙂

So you are taking intermediate again in October? But it is the same exam for TOPIK 3 and 4, right? And the score determines whether you get 3, 4, or fail? I’d say go lang, we are so lucky here in Manila that the exam fees are ridiculously cheap. In the end we only lose one Sunday for a shot on a certificate! 😉
